Mission Statement

We take the lead in further developing the North Netherlands into a confident, strong, and inviting region with a healthy economy, low unemployment rates, and attractive living conditions. We have a part to play in this. Our schools, most of which are in the province of Groningen and some in the neighbouring provinces, account for 6 percent of the professional population each year. In short, we are holding the keys to many doors to success and aim to make the difference in the future.

The focal points in our strategic policy are set out below. We have also reviewed and refined our mission: Noorderpoort aims to prepare youngsters and adults for a suitable profession, coaching them in their careers, enabling them to develop and contribute to a sustainable society.

The importance of the mission goes a lot further than these words might suggest. It implies: Youngsters and adults: Noorderpoort offers training throughout an individual's career; from initial education (from VMBO and HAVO) to courses, training and post-initial vocational studies.

Noorderpoort aims to be a ‘learning hub’ aimed at lifelong learning. Preparing for, leading up to, or coaching towards a fitting profession. First and foremost, Noorderpoort offers vocational teaching at the senior secondary level. All of our other training and learning activities lead up to or are otherwise connected to our vocational studies. We also aim to help youngsters with special needs to find suitable professions.

Enabling them to develop: Noorderpoort offers pupils and students adequate professional training and a solid base for further professional and personal development in our (multicultural) society. Society in all of its facets is duly represented at Noorderpoort.

Contributing to society: Everything we and our pupils and students do is set against the background of our regional society that is becoming increasingly international. Noorderpoort therefore aims to find, establish and maintain sustainable and intensive liaisons with municipalities, employers, trade organisations and other parties and institutions in the regional teaching and labour market. For all of these parties we aim to be a ‘development partner for life’ in professional education, career, education and knowledge. The employees at Noorderpoort combine to form a sustainable and endless source of energy we reinvest in the region. Our strength lies within. With our educational skills, our passion for human development and our diversity in schools, target groups and teaching we aim to contribute to something that is bigger than us: inspiring Groningen to make the most of itself.

Sustainable: Noorderpoort believes that a healthy society is a sustainable society. In our education, in the relationship between teachers and pupils, and in our operations, sustainability features as a key issue.
